Thick sheets of thawing ice jammed up along Yellow Creek Friday afternoon. Warm temperatures caused the ice to break up and jam two miles down the creek. Customer's of Brown's Hobby Shop and Raceway are used to seeing a racetrack just below the shop, but now all they see is water. "I've seen worse, but this one is pretty bad, I just hope it doesn't damage anything that they've built down there"- Jason Hornick, customer. In addition to the racetrack, the shops boat marine is also flooded. The owner of that shop says he hopse the ice will break soon. "If it breaks loose and moves down below me, then of course it raises our water, then the front of the jam below us, then our water will come two or three feet. But if it stays where its at, basically the water will go back down and it will melt off slowly" - Jeff Brown, Owner of Brown's Hobby Shop and Raceway. While it is unclear how much damage has been done, the racestrack is set to open this April.

The article follows: "Ice jam leads to water rescue" COSHOCTON — Ice in the rivers caused some minor problems Friday in Coshocton County. Coshocton County Emergency Management Agency Director Rob McMasters said that, on Friday, he responded with Coshocton County EMS and the Walhonding Valley Fire District to a water rescue at Shady Grove Campground on Country Road 27. An ice jam in the Walhonding River caused high water in the campground. He said one woman was evacuated and two other people were taken by EMS to Coshocton Hospital to be checked out, but they didn’t have any major injuries. McMasters said the ice jam broke up shortly after the rescue and the water level receded. He said it caused no other problems. He said another ice jam broke loose Friday in Knox County and came down the Mohican River. It was behind Mohawk Dam on Sunday, and McMasters said dam officials aren’t concerned with it. McMasters said flooding from the melting snow has been equivalent to a heavy rain event and that there haven’t been any significant flooding or other problems.

Water is at the top of the river's banks along the parking lot area in the reservation. Rangers decided to close the area where the marina is located as a safety precaution, Metroparks spokeswoman Sue Allen said. It was mainly to protect individuals who might wander into the area to take pictures or video, she said. Mayor Michael Summers (http://www.onelakewood.com/Mayor/) advised residents in the Clifton Lagoon area near the mouth of the river to be prepared for a possible evacuation. "Right now, we are monitoring the situation," said Lakewood Police (http://onelakewood.com/PublicSafety/Police/) Capt. Ed Hassing. "We're not ordering any evacuations." There is an ice dam just south of the Detroit Road Bridge and police and firefighters are keeping an eye on it. If it suddenly gives way, it could cause some flooding problems, he said. One positive sign is that water slowly is making its way around the blockage, Fire Chief Scott Gilman (http://onelakewood.com/PublicSafety /Fire/Default.aspx) said. "It is flowing under and around the ice jam, so those are helpful things," he said. http://impact.cleveland.com/lakewood/ 21 Feb 2014 "Rocky River ice jam breaks free; Lakewood officials say threat has passed" Bruce Geiselman, Northeast Ohio Media Group LAKEWOOD, Ohio – The ice jam on the Rocky River gave way suddenly Friday afternoon, allowing water to flow freely and quickly bringing down the water level along the banks of the river. "Crisis averted," Joe Beno, Lakewood Public Works director, said. The city's wastewater treatment plant is located near the river and water was rapidly approaching the buildings Friday morning. Lakewood authorities had warned residents of the Clifton Lagoon area to be ready to evacuate on short notice if water levels continued to rise. However, after the ice broke free, the river quickly receded, city officials said. "It's something we're monitoring, but it is not high risk," police Sgt. Kevin Fischer said. The National Weather Service canceled a flash flood warning for the area at 4:08 p.m. after hearing from area fire officials who had been monitoring the situation that the water level had dropped below the flood stage. "The main threat is over," said Kristen Schepel, a National Weather Service meteorologist. "The snow melt and the heavy rain are gone." The complete reports, as well as additional publications can be found in reports attached to this entry. Ice jam bursts on the Rocky River The ice jam on the Rocky River burst about 1 p.m. Friday after rain and snow melt caused the ice-covered river to explode. The homes along the bank were not immediately affected.
